About Gwen
At Workshop, I give people and brands the tools they need to tell great stories.
I’ve developed an approach to writing that works for all kinds of people, from engineers reporting on the job to entrepreneurs crafting talks for Cannes Lions. I’ve run communications workshops for fintech companies and for food startups. I've taught storytelling techniques to marketing professionals and helped non-profit founders craft pitch decks. I’ve ghostwritten New York Times editorials; coached executives through speechwriting; and helped thought leaders get their ideas on the page and out into the world.
I love helping people bring their creativity, their savvy, and their analytical thinking to the page.
I honed my skills as a writing teacher and mentor when I served as Director of the Center for Writing and a professor of English literature at The Cooper Union in New York City. And I got my professional start at Columbia University, where I first trained college teachers while I earned a PhD in English.
I’ve written four books: Thinking on the Page, a writing guide co-written with the amazing writer and teacher Martha Schulman; cookbook/narratives Urban Italian and American Flavor with chef Andrew Carmellini; and Making a Man, a scholarly book about monstrous 19th-century appetites. I’m working on my first novel: stay tuned!
